Kalil's Korner - March

What’s up everyone!

I hope the beginning of 2024 has been great to you all.

I know it’s been a while, but I want to revamp Kalil’s Corner, bring it back to life and I am excited to share with you what we’ve had going on so far, as well as what’s to come. So let’s jump right in!

Due to inclement weather back in January, the month of February was LOADED with Rally Clinics and a Curated Experience. We started the year off strong with our first ever Hockey Curated Experience! Saturday, February 3rd, we took our favorite scholars to a Birmingham Bulls hockey game where they faced off against the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. Our kids were able to tour the Pelham Civic Center before watching the game. We were able to visit areas of the facility that are typically off-limits to fans and meet the individuals who make the gears turn from a business perspective and make every game worth attending for the fans. The Bulls protected the home ice as they defeated the Rail Yard Dawgs in an exciting battle that had us all jumping out of our seats and leaving the arena Birmingham Bulls fans.

The following Saturday we kept the fun rolling with a day of Soccer at Railroad Park. The kids were able to receive hands-on instruction and experience from our great friend Hunter Davis, who is also a licensed FIFA Agent furthering our mission of connecting our scholars with former athletes who have had a shift in their careers from being an athlete to continuing to pursue success in that sport off the field.

Last but certainly not least, we wrapped up the month of February with our friends Brian Lucas and Mickey Wright from GBYLA for a Saturday morning of Lacrosse! We spent a couple of hours learning about the game of Lacrosse, working on hand/eye coordination, and learning how to use equipment. We even hosted a little Girls vs. Boys competition (at their request) where the objective was to scoop and score as many goals as possible and the girls beat the boys twice! Shoutout to Girl Power!

As busy as the month of February was, I had so much fun hanging out with my little ones and March is set to be just as active so let’s keep the ball rolling!

This month we have our Quarterly PAT Breakfast Check-In on Saturday, March 23rd! This is always the most imperative time spent with our families. This PAT will also serve as a Graduation Ceremony for our Phase One Scholars who will now be moving on to Phase Two! This is going to be a very special day and mark the initiation of only the second class of ZeroZero Scholars to move on to Phase Two and I could not be more excited for their continued growth.

Well, that is all I have for now! Stay tuned on our Instagram @zerozero_fdn to remain updated on all that we do.

Until next time!
